I am an avid player of Bejeweled. There is just something about this game when I have a few minutes to kill. I love the original game, but best of all, I love the Blitz version used on Facebook. I have read hints and tips everywhere and created many of my own just by playing over and over. The original Aleeya.net website had a lot of the tips, but they were lost. Here is a reprint and many new additions
Power Up Boosts - powerups that will last the next three games.
- Mystery Gem – gives you a random special gem from the start.
- Detonators – trigger explosions at any time in the game. Use them to clear out special gems.
- Scramble - creates a Scramble button at the lower right corner of the board at game start. It shuffles all the gems in the board to give you a new chance
- Five More Seconds – give you five more seconds activated automatically.
- Multiplier – Gives you a multiplier gem from the beginning
Special Gems
- Flame Gems – created by making a line of 4 gems. Flame Gems, when matched, explode, destroying themselves along with all eight surrounding gems.
- Hypercubes – created by making a line of 5 gems. Hypercubes can be matched to any adjacent gem regardless of color, and destroy all gems of that color on the board.
- Star Gems – created by making a T- or L-shaped match. Star Gems, when matched, send explosive bolts of energy right, left, up and down, destroying all gems on those lines.
These tips are mainly for Bejeweled Blitz (a 60 second game downloadable from POPCAP or playable on Facebook)
- Make the screen size as small as you can in a window without having to scroll. This way, your eyes do not have to go as far to glance over the screen to match jewels.
- You can start before the voice says GO!
- Be constantly moving your eyes to look for matches. Do not be distracted by explosions and wait till they stop to make your next move.
- Use coins to combine 5 second extra, Mystery Gem and Free Multiplier
- You can play during explosions in Blitz whereas in the original game you can not
- You can get extra coins by matching 3 gems with a coin, but if you want high score, don’t concentrate on these
- Go for matches on the bottom half of the screen as these will increase the changes instead of the matches from the top half
- If you reset or start over a game, you will lose any of the Extras you bought with coins. Besides, it is good practice
- Use a hypercube if you have one to get the colour with as many gems on the screen
- Use a hypercube to get the colour of gem that has a multiplier in the field.
- Get as many special gems in a row that you can. The multiplier increases every time and this is great in the last chance at the end (Last Hurrah).
- I like to turn off the sound for distraction purposes and it is easier to play through explosions and the Go!
- If you have a choice between a 3 or a 4 gem run, go for as many 4+ runs as you can
- Automatic hints are given if you do not choose in time. These hints may not always be the best ones, though they are there if you are truly stuck
- Don’t over think a move. The faster you play, the more bonuses you can get with Blazing Speed.
- Ignore your score and the clock. Literally. Don’t waste time
- Look for power gems at the beginning of a game
- When you play over and over, you literally train your brain. Muscle memory makes many moves become subconscious. Also, becomeing more observant in your daily life with things around you helps as well.
- Work on cascading as many gems as you can by matching ones on the lowest rows
- Don’t bother downloading the firefox cheats and hacks plugins to get more time or jewels on the facebook game. How lame. And it is easy to tell you cheated! Not to mention, a great way to get your account information hijacked..
Cascades
When you make a match, new gems fall in from above. Sometimes those gems themselves match as soon as they land. This is a cascade, and it counts toward the original match. Cascades can stack; that is, a cascade can trigger another cascade, which can trigger another cascade, and so on.
Multipliers
When you first begin a game, if you make a match that destroys 12 or more gems (by destroying a Flame Gem followed by a cascade, for instance), a Multiplier drops in. In subsequent 12+ matches, a Multiplier might fall in according to a complex and highly secret formula. If you match a Multiplier, that match and all subsequent scoring is multiplied by the Multiplier value. The maximum Multiplier value is 8x.
Speed Bonus
If you make matches quickly enough in succession, you will earn a Speed Bonus, which is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the screen above your score. The Speed Bonus starts at 200 points and is added to the point total for the match. As you continue to make fast matches, the Speed Bonus increases to a maximum value of 1000 additional points per match. If you falter for too long, the Speed Bonus resets to zero.
Blazing Speed
Once you have filled your Speed Bonus to +1000, you unlock the Ignition Meter. Keep making fast matches to fill it and activate Blazing Speed. While Blazing Speed is active the board pulses orange and every matched gem acts as a Flame Gem, exploding on the match. This is an excellent way to clear large areas of the board and pick up hard-to-get Multipliers.
Coins
Every so often a yellow gem with a coin icon appears. This yellow gem matches the same as other yellow gems, but if you match it you will receive the Coin. Coins add to your Coin total and may be used to purchase Boosts (see Boosts). All unmatched Coins are added to your total at the end of the game, and you also receive a number of Coins equal to your end-of-game Multiplier level. Each unmatched Coin gem adds 100 Coins to your Coin total.
Coins earned during online play are gold, while Coins earned during offline play are silver. Gold and silver Coin totals are kept separately.
Last Hurrah
When 60 seconds has elapsed and a game is over, you receive the Last Hurrah. During the Last Hurrah, all Special Gems and Multipliers are detonated. Detonated Multipliers do not, however, add to your post-game Multiplier level.
