Push The Movie

The other day, I came across a movie trailer that I think it is going to be an excellent movie. I like fantasy, sci fi, horror, all sorts of movies. As a fan of Jumpers and Heroes (Tv Show) this one seems to be right up the same alley.

Push is set to release in Feb, 2009.

What looks to be an excellent movie about a group of people who have amazing abilities. Involved is a group of young Americans with telekinetic, clairvoyant, and other abilities. They are hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency - the Division. They must use their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the Division forever. Only one person has ever escaped the Division, and she is a pusher.

( Let the chase begin )

Some can move objects with their mind, some can read minds, some can see the future, and the most dangerous are the pushers. The pushers can plant ideas in other peoples minds.

» Movers - Can simply move objects.
» Pushers - Can push thoughts into the minds of other people making them believe they’re real.
» Watchers - Can see into the future.
» Bleeders - Emit a high pitch noise that can disable or even kill people.
» Sniffers - Can see a history of anything they smell.
» Shifters - Can change the shape of objects around them for a short time.
» Wipers - Can wipe the memory of those around them.
» Shadows - Can clock themselves in a shadow, almost as if they’re invisible.
» Stichers - Can heal others.

From the ComicCon First Showing of Push

From what we saw (they had a three minute or so video with intro to the film) it looks like it’s about a select group of people on the planet that have psychic and telekinetic abilities. The video (voice over was done by Dakota Fanning) explained that the German government began doing experiments on those who claimed to have psychic abilities in WWII. Their end goal was to create some kind of a psychic soldier to use on the battlefield. The video continues on to say that even after the war had ended, testing continued. In fact, it had spread to other governments around the globe. Everyone wanted to get their hands on these psychics. It appears that the premise for the film is that some government entity is after physics in the now.

Staring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanmning, Camilla Belle, and Djimon Honsou.

Yes, we all know this storyline has been-there-done-that. My response? So what ? That doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be done again - it just means ‘well, come and do it better then!’ You never know! It just might be… ( If people still feel it is not worth the same storyline, at least see it then complain…)

Full plot courtesy of Summit Entertainment:

A riveting action-thriller, Push burrows deep into the deadly world of psychic espionage where artificially enhanced paranormal operatives have the ability to move objects with their minds, see the future, create new realities and kill without ever touching their victims. Against this setting, a young man and a teenage girl take on a clandestine agency in a race against time that will determine the future of civilization.

The Division, a shadowy government agency, is genetically transforming citizens into an army of psychic warriors—and brutally disposing of those unwilling to participate. Nick Gant (Chris Evans), a second-generation telekinetic or “mover,” has been in hiding since the Division murdered his father more than a decade earlier. He has found sanctuary in densely populated Hong Kong—the last safe place on earth for fugitive psychics like him—but only if he can keep his gift a secret.

Nick is forced out of hiding when Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning), a 13-year-old clairvoyant or “watcher,” seeks his help in finding Kira, (Camilla Belle), an escaped “pusher” who may hold the key to ending the Division’s program. Pushers possess the most dangerous of all psychic powers: the ability to influence others’ actions by implanting thoughts in their minds. But Cassie’s presence soon attracts the attention of the Division’s human bloodhounds, forcing Nick and Cassie to flee for their lives.

With the help of a team of rogue psychics, the unlikely duo traverses the seedy underbelly of the city, trying to stay one step ahead of the authorities as they search for Kira. But they find themselves square in the crosshairs of Division Agent Henry Carver (Djimon Hounsou), a pusher who will stop at nothing to keep them from achieving their goal.
